Matthew-Lee is a writer, actor, and the universe is a hologram.
He is from Chicago and New York. Also, no one is from anywhere.

His play THE DOPPELGÄNGER (an international farce),
directed by Tina Landau and starring Rainn Wilson,
premieres April 15, 2018 at Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago.

His play RADICAL directed by Hallie Gordon,
inspired by the book White American Youth by Christian Picciolini,
will premiere Feb 27, 2019 at Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago.

Matthew-Lee has written for Masters of Sex on Showtime and
  Gypsy on Netflix. A recipient of the Humanitas Prize
New Voices Award, Matthew-Lee has received support from
the National Endowment for the Arts, Laurents/Hatcher Foundation,
Elizabeth F. Cheney Foundation, Puffin Foundation,
and is a member of Ars Nova's 14/15 Play Group.


Most recent playwright credits include the critically-acclaimed Off-Bway
world-premiere of Handbook for an American Revolutionary
(Tony Speciale, dir) at the GYM at Judson; Eager to Lose, a Burlesque Farce
in Rhyming Verse, extended Off-Bway at ArsNova/nominated for Off Broadway
Alliance Award (Wes Grantom/Portia Krieger, dirs); and the NY premiere of Sex of the Baby
(Michelle Bossy, dir).  Other plays include Kevin Lamb, KING GEORGE III: Part One,
A Neighbor in the Area, Electronic Persons and Revelations, which have
been developed with Steppenwolf,  The New Group, Vineyard, Ars Nova, MCC,
Williamstown, NYTW, and Orchard Project, among others.

Not Theatre.
He has written for MTV, Nickelodeon, Nicktoons and WWE (yeah, TV wrestling).
His short film ROGER, THE CHICKEN won Best Screenplay at Houston Comedy Festival
and was a selection at film festivals around the U.S. and Canada, including the Friars
Club Comedy Film Festival. His comedy has been featured in/on Decider, Village Voice,
Time Out, The Huffington Post, Indiewire, and in venues all over the city. His socio-political satire
Happy Sunshine Kung Fu Flower was sponsored by The Onion and featured guests
ranging from Amy Goodman, Paul Rieckhoff, and Mo Rocca to Lizz Winstead, Willie Geist,
and Rachel Maddow, who called the show "shocking, engaging, funny, and totally original."

Matthew-Lee most recently appeared Off-Bway in Sex of the Baby.
TV/ Film: Another Earth (Sundance/Fox Searchlight); host of MTV’s Epic Fail pilot;
Important Things with Demetri Martin (Comedy Central); Law&Order:SVU;
Roger, the Chicken and the upcoming Human Interest.
His performance in Off-Bway’s Handbook for an American Revolutionary
won rave reviews and an extended run. He has acted Off-Bway, regionally,
and has voiced characters for Rockstar Games and campaigns for
Coors Light, Dairy Queen, Levi’s, and Nickelodeon.


A proud graduate of the public school system from K-College, Matthew-Lee runs
a writing program he created for Midnight Mission's HomeLight program
and is a team leader for Habitat for Humanity, locally and globally.
He is also an advocate for transhumanism.
